What is Video Telematics? #
Video telematics represents a powerful fusion of video technology and telematics solutions. It includes features such as GPS tracking, vehicle diagnostics, and fleet management functionalities. This integration enhances fleet monitoring, safety, and overall efficiency.
How Video Telematics Works #
Video telematics involves the installation of cameras or video recording devices in vehicles. These devices capture real-time footage, including Driver Monitoring System (DMS) and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) views of the vehicle. This video data is then combined with other telematics data, including location, speed, and various vehicle performance metrics.
The Purpose of Video Telematics #
The primary objective of video telematics is to empower fleet managers with valuable insights into driver behaviour, road conditions, and potential incidents. This technology plays an important role in:
- Monitoring driver performance.
- Identifying risky driving behaviours (e.g., distracted driving, speeding, harsh braking)
- Investigating accidents or incidents.
- Providing constructive feedback to drivers
This footage can be accessed and analyzed in real-time or saved for later review, offering flexibility and convenience.
Please Note: Video Telematics is included only in Bongo IoT Premium.
Ways to Access Video Telematics Data #
- Widgets:Widgets are small components that display essential video telematics data. You’ll find these widgets located on the Tooltip on the Live Tracking Screen.
Example:
Using the Camera Activity widget, the user can view the snapshots, the live streaming and can also request the media.
Using the ADAS widget, the user can view all the ADAS activities of the vehicle.
Using the DMS widget, the user can view all the DMS activities of the vehicle. - Object List Settings:
The user can view the live streaming, snapshots and playback of the vehicles from the Object tab. - Events:Video Telematics alerts generate events that can be viewed through the ‘Events’ tab on the Playback screen. This tab provides details related to the incidents or actions that have occurred.
Example: - Image Gallery Tab:The ‘Image Gallery’ tab on the Playback screen allows users to view recordings of events that have taken place. This visual representation provides insights into incidents.
Example: - Reports: Video Telematics data can be structured into reports based on the events that have occurred. These reports offer an overview of your fleet’s performance and incidents.
Example:
Warning Report:
In the Warning Report, the details of all the ADAS and DMS violations that have occurred are shown.
Navigate from Reports > Video Telematics > Warning Report to access the Warning Report.
Media Gallery Report:
In the Media Gallery Report, the Snapshots, Videos and Events can be viewed of a selected vehicle in a specific time frame.
Navigate from Reports > Video Telematics > Media Gallery to access the Media Gallery Report.
